This helpful applications lets you edit, share, and organize your photos with ease. F-spot was designed for the Gnome desktop environment but can be used with most GNU/Linux distributions. You can even import photos directly from your digital camera.
F-Spot Functions
The F-Spot interface supports many file types. You can crop, rotate, and adjust the sizes of your images at any time. Even use color adjustments to fix red-eye.
Other Features
Or try adjusting the brightness and contrast of your images to offer a more crisp look. Several search options are available when your library begins to overflow.
Install F-Spot
You can install F-Spot by typing the following commands into your terminal.
$ sudo apt-get install f-spot
F-Spot Image Viewer Features
- F-Spot makes it easy to create your own photo CD's.
- Exporting or uploading to Flickr and Picasa type accounts is also supported.
- You can add tags to your images as well, or even tag icons.
- Rate your photos from one to five stars
- Some photo editing options are also available.
F-Spot Image Viewer Importing
F-Spot also offers the ability to import your photos from media devices or folders into the F-Spot interface. This is usually one of the first things you will want to do after you download F-Spot.
Importing Photos
To do this you can select import from the toolbar, or from the photo menu. Then select the source where your photos are located and press import again.
F-Spot Image Viewer Tagging Photos
The ability to tag your photos is another popular feature available with F-Spot. Tagging photos allows you to quickly search your photos for places, people, or events.
Using Tags
To create a set of tags first open the tags menu and click create new tag. Then name your new tag, or you can select a parent for your tags, when finished click create. Removing, deleting, and attaching tags can also be completed from the tags menu.
F-Spot Image Viewer Rating Photos
Another excellent feature of F-Spot is the ability to rate your photos from one to five stars.
How To Rate Photos
To rate a photo you can right-click on the photo in your library, then select a rating by clicking one of the dots at the bottom of the pop-up menu. The dots will turn to stars. You can also do this by double clicking on a photo in your library, then you will see the dots in the lower right corner of the F-Spot window.
F-Spot Image Viewer Editing Photos
You can also edit your photos in a number of simple ways, though F-Spot is not really a photo editor. You can crop, rotate, or straighten your photos, all from the edit menu. You can also use the edit image button in the toolbar. F-Spot has the ability to manipulate color settings and red-eye removal tool is available when needed.

Photo Menu
From the photo menu you can import photos from media devices or folders on your system. This menu also lets you manipulate photo versions if you have older copies. You can export your photos, print them, or send them via email. Last you will find view page setup, or an option to quit.
Edit
Here you can manage and manipulate your photos, you can copy images, select all images, or select none. You can rotate images, sharpen images, or adjust the time stamps. Refresh thumbnails, delete photos from the drive, or remove them from the catalog at any time. Images can also be displayed as your desktop background. The edit menu also lets you manage photo tags, configure the F-Spot preferences, or manage the F-Spot extensions.
View
Toggle slide show or full-screen mode, or toggle the display of thumbnail elements and window components. Options are also available to zoom or out on photos. Change the size of tag icons, or reverse the order of your photos.
Find
From here you can display the find bar in the F-Spot window, also search for tags.
Tags
Create, edit, or delete photo tags. Also attach and remove tags from selections.
Tools
This menu allows you to configure a screensaver slide show of your photo library.

F-Spot Image Viewer Commands
This is the standard usage for F-spot.
$ fspot --option
This will tell F-Spot to view the image or directory you choose.
$ fspot --view file
Use this to display a slide show.
$ fspot --slideshow
This will shutdown a running F-Spot session.
$ fspot --shutdown
This will display debug info.
$ fspot --debug
Shows F-Spot help information.
$ fspot --help
This will show you a few more ways to use F-Spot from the command line.
