Watching Linux Evolve
The Gnome desktop environment also bundles a variety of fun games to help users pass the time. Several fun puzzle games are available, most are simple, short games.
About Gnome Games
If you are using the Gnome desktop you should already have many of these excellent games installed, most of these games should work on other desktops as well.
Here are a some of my favorite games that come installed on the Gnome desktop.
Chess
Play chess in 3D or 2D mode against your friends or the computer.
Sudoku
Try the popular Japanese Sudoku puzzle game.
Quadrapassel
This is a remake of the original Tetris game. This one should be a well know favorite for many users. All you need to do is place the shaped blocks as they fall, try to form full lines.
Iagno
This is the Gnome version of Reversi or Othello. Simply flip all of your opponents pieces by strategically placing yours.
Mines
This is a clone of the popular old Minesweeper game. Simply uncover the empty squares and watch out for the mines.
Nibbles
Navigate your snake around the window eating as many diamonds as possible, as your snake grows it becomes more difficult to avoid touching walls or yourself.
Tali
This game is very much like Yahtzee, just roll the dice.
More games are also available, here are some others that you may want to try.
Tetravex
In this game you need to position the pieces so that the same numbers are always touching each other.
Swell Foop
Here is another fun puzzle game, in this game you have to remove all of the objects in as few moves as possible.
Robots
With this game all you need to do is move your character and try to avoid the robots. For each move the robots get closer, but you can always transport to escape.
Klotski
Hell I can’t even understand this game, maybe you can.
Five Or More
This is a remake of the Windows game called Color Lines. All you need to do is line up five objects of the same color and shape, they will then disappear. The only goal is to keep going for as long as you can.
Four In A Row
This game is similar to five or more, except it uses marbles, and you only need to line up four. You also have a computer opponent trying to thwart your efforts.
