The Gnome tweak tool can be used to configure additional desktop settings when using the Gnome shell desktop environment. The Gnome tweak tool allows you to control which icons are displayed on the desktop, and you can manage all of your Gnome Shell extensions as well.
Tweak Your Desktop
Fonts and theme settings can also be adjusted using the Gnome tweak tool. Be sure to use the Gnome tweak tool to get your desktop working the way you want.
The following items are contained in the Gnome tweak tool desktop tab.
Have File Manager Handle The Desktop
Toggle this on or off to use the file manager or the display manager to handle the desktop.
Computer Icon Visible On The Desktop
This will display the computer icon on the desktop.
Home Icon Visible On The Desktop
The home icon will be displayed on the desktop when this option is toggled.
Network Servers Icon Visible On The Desktop
The network icon will appear on the desktop when this option is toggled.
Trash Icon Visible On The Desktop
This will display the trash can icon on the desktop.
Show Mounted Volumes On The Desktop
Mounted file systems and devices will appear on the desktop when this option is toggled.
From here you can customize your window fonts and many of your window font settings.
Text Scaling Factor
Use the slider to toggle the default size of all desktop fonts.
Default Font
Select a default desktop font, and font size.
Document Font
This is the font used for text documents, the font size can also be changed.
Monospace Font
This is the font used for code, some text, and the terminal. The font size can be changed as well.
Window Title Font
Window title font, and font size can also be changed.
Hinting
Select the amount of hinting used for fonts, the available options are full, medium, slight, and none.
Antialiasing
Select the anti-ailiasing options which will be used for desktop fonts. The available options are RGBA, none, and greyscale.
Looks like this is just a storage location for a few extra settings, nothing important.
Show Date In Clock
This will toggle the display of the date in the panel clock.
Show Time With Seconds
Seconds can also be displayed in the panel clock by toggling this option.
Show The Week Date In The Calendar
The date can be displayed in the panel by toggling this option.
Arrangement Of Buttons On The Tittle Bar
Window tittle bar buttons can be selected individually.
Laptop Lid Close Action On Battery
The action used when the laptop lid is closed and using battery power can be changed. The available actions are blank, hibernate, interactive, nothing, shutdown, and suspend.
Laptop Lid Close Action When On AC
The action used when the laptop lid is closed and connected to AC power can also be changed.
This is where you can toggle all of your Gnome Shell extensions, that is if you have any installed.
Toggle Extensions
To the right side of each of your Gnome Shell extensions you will see an on or off switch. Just click the on or off button to toggle your extensions.
From the theme tab you can change the themes for your desktop or windows.
Shell Theme
This will allow you to select a new shell theme from the list of available themes.
Menus Have Icons
Toggle the display of icons inside the Gnome Shell activities menu.
Buttons Have Icons
If a button is not an icon I don’t know what it is, nor what this does.
Cursor Theme
Select a theme to use for the mouse cursor.
Keybinding Themes
Different keybinding themes can be used, default or Emacs keybinding schemes are available.
Icon Theme
Icon themes can also be selected from here.
GTK Theme
This will change the GTK theme used for the entire desktop.
Window Theme
You can even toggle a different theme to use for window decorations.
The available window options are lower, menu, minimize, none, shade, toggle maximize, toggle maximize horizontally, toggle maximize vertically, or toggle shade.
Action On Title Bar Double Click
From here you can change what happens when you double-click on a window title bar using the above actions.
Action On Title Bar Middle Click
Even change what happens when you middle-click on a window title bar.
Action On Title Bar Right Click
This will let you change what happens when you right-click on a window title bar.
window Focus Mode
Use this option to control how windows become focused. You can click on a window to make it become active, you can use mouse hover focus, or sloppy focus.
