Now for a look at some of famous office applications available for the Linux desktop. Linux has a great selection of office tools, from simple text editors, to full office suites.

With Adobe Reader you can view and print your PDF files. Adobe Reader is available for many different operating systems which is quite convenient. You will often find Adobe Reader in the repositories for most popular Linux distributions.

Gedit is one of the most popular text editors available for the Linux desktop. Of course other text editors have many more features, but Gedit is well known for its simplicity. Gedit can also use plugins to extend the basic functionality. Syntax highlighting is also available for a number of coding languages as well. The Gedit interface is also expandable for advanced users to work with multiple files.

Try Geany if you need a text editor made specifically for coders. Sure you can use Geany as a regular text editor, but all the features available for coders are the stong points of Geany. Effective syntax highlighting for multiple languages is only one of the many features Geany has to offer.

This is a simple dictionary that is actually very powerful. Gnome Dictionary can be used online or offline, and you can query from databases, or websites.

LibreOffice is a full office suite that is becoming extremely popular in the Linux world. The sleek interface and the phenomenal amount of tools makes LibreOffice a very good choice for office software. You can create simple text files, drawings, spreadsheets, even presentations.
