I've used Mint off and on since I got fed up with Windoze about 3 years ago. Started with Ubuntu, but since they started using Unity as the default DE, I've bounced around Pinguy, UE, Regal and Mint. With Mint 12 and the Cinnamon DE, I found the perfect balance of functionality and usability. Docky and Cairo Dock coexist beautifully; I have many options for menus. What more could you want?

I didn't like GNOME shell nearly as much as I like KDE, Mint interfaces, or most Xfce interfaces, but it's surprisingly tolerable. Was my first DE as soon as I figure out how to bounce out of Unity (although to be honest, Unity isn't total trash either)

I've been using Mint since Helena. I am continuously trying out other distros to see what they have to offer but remain faithful to Mint. I must admit that I love using gnome shell and had considered switching to a distro which came with it, but fortunately it was offered with Mint 12. So now I am running my favorite distro with my gnome shell. You cannot beat that.

I know gnome shell has not been received well but I would recommend that everyone try it. Give a week or so. I tried it out last year thinking it was going to be as bad as unity, but I was surprised to discover it was something I enjoyed using.

So, hurray Mint, hurray Gnome Shell!
